Doris Orr, 93, passed away August 30 in Indianapolis. She was born August 2, 1920 in Chicago to Madeline and Harold Lloyd.
Doris attended Drake University, where she belonged to Delta Gamma Society and graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree. She worked as a property manager for many years until retirement at age 62.
Doris was an avid tennis player in her childhood, then took up golf as an adult. As an amateur golfer, Doris won many tournaments and was encouraged to turn pro, but with a young family, she declined. In her later years, she returned to tennis and took up knitting.
Doris was preceded in death by her sons, Lloyd and Lawrence; and her beloved dog, Pebbles. She is survived by her daughters, Rachel (Michael) Phillips and Sarah (Terry) Harlan; her granddaughters, Morgan and Hannah Phillips and Madeline (Jameson) Hutchins; and her great-grandson, Hunter Scott Hutchins.
Doris made many wonderful friends while living at Lions Head. Their support was most valuable during hospice.
A memorial service will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian St.at a time to be announced later.
